William Ferland is a young student from Gatineau currently enrolled in the Heavy Vehicle Mechanics program at the École des métiers de l’équipement motorisé de Montréal.

Ambitious and hardworking, he takes pride in the independence he has gained since starting his training, both in his daily life and in his studies.

His interest in mechanics goes back many years. The son of a hands-on father who worked both in construction and as a firefighter, William grew up surrounded by tools and started tinkering with his gas scooter at a young age.

That passion naturally led him toward a vocational diploma in heavy vehicle mechanics, driven by the desire to take on bigger challenges and specialize in large-scale machinery such as trucks.

Throughout his training, William especially appreciates the group atmosphere and the close relationship with his teachers. “The instructors are very involved, attentive, and always ready to help,” he explains.

The program combines theory and practical training in structured blocks, and William has maintained an excellent record with no failed competencies, something he is clearly proud of.

Looking ahead, his goal is clear: to join Hydro-Québec as a heavy vehicle mechanic, a company known for hiring its interns directly. An ambitious dream, but one that is entirely achievable thanks to the training he is receiving.

His message to those who may still be hesitating? “Give it a try, take the leap — it’s a great opportunity.”
