Between 2015 and 2025, the light vehicle aftermarket — spanning Replacement Parts, Accessories, Chemicals, and Tools & Equipment — showed sharply diverging trends.
Replacement Parts remain the volume leader despite a declining market share (falling below 63% in 2020), generating approximately $10 billion in gains — roughly 35% of total aftermarket growth.
Accessories expanded their market share by over one-third, recording nearly $9 billion in product gains, with an annual growth rate of +5.5%.
Tools & Equipment posted the highest annual growth rate (+6%) and the largest market share increase (+400 basis points), accounting for over 30% of total sector growth.
Chemicals lost nearly one-fifth of their market share, adding close to $1 billion in sales, yet representing less than 3% of total aftermarket expansion.
Importantly, the rising share of discretionary products is making the aftermarket more volatile and less countercyclical than it has historically been.
