Groupe Olivier crosses the border into Michigan

The Quebec group acquires three U.S. dealerships, the first concrete step in a long-planned expansion

Groupe Olivier is making its U.S. expansion a reality. On October 19, 2026, the Quebec-based group acquired three Michigan dealerships, Bell Ford Lincoln, Bell Chevrolet Cadillac and Knapp Chevrolet, from the Greg Bell Automotive group. President Jacques Olivier executed the deal with his partners, Daniel Fox and Michel Martineau, with support from the mergers-and-acquisitions firm DSMA.

Olivier said the move was part of the group’s long-standing plan, noting that its growth in Quebec was already well underway. An earlier attempt to acquire a Vermont dealership had fallen through at the last minute due to environmental concerns.

Setting up south of the border comes with its own particularities: relationships with automakers in Canada do not guarantee approval of a U.S. acquisition. Despite the current Canada-U.S. trade climate, the president remains confident in the company’s plans.
