Older Cars, New Opportunities for the Aftermarket

Vehicles are staying on the road longer than ever, reshaping the automotive aftermarket. In the U.S., the average age of cars and light trucks reached 12.8 years in early 2025; in Canada, it’s about 10.5 years.

Better durability, higher prices and slower new-car sales are pushing drivers to keep their vehicles longer.
This shift fuels growth for the aftermarket: older cars need more maintenance and parts, while owners seek affordable solutions. “Value” brands and independent repair shops are seeing renewed momentum.

Aging vehicles mean rising opportunities — the older the fleet, the younger the business outlook.
