An Educator Turned Global Leader 

Originally from Joliette and a graduate in Education Sciences from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, Patrice M. Marcil has always placed learning at the heart of his professional approach. When he joined Axalta in 2000, he adopted an innovative method that combines technical discipline, human understanding, and organizational vision. His rise from trainer for Eastern Canada to a global leadership role reflects his growing influence in an industry undergoing major transformation. Alongside his position at Axalta Coating Systems, he also served as President of the Canadian Collision Industry Forum (CCIF). This experience enabled him to strengthen ties among insurers, collision repairers, manufacturers, and training institutions. 

Addressing a Global Labour Shortage 

“One of the major challenges I face,” explains Mr. Marcil, “is the shortage of skilled workers in collision repair and automotive refinishing.” An aging workforce, a next generation without enough workers, and the arrival of immigrants without specialized training all contribute to this issue. Under his leadership, Axalta has implemented a flexible and expanded training strategy focused on acquiring core skills and adapting to local realities. “The company now offers in-person training at around 50 centres, instructor-led virtual training, as well as online courses in more than 30 languages,” he adds. This approach aims to provide learners with the right knowledge at the exact moment they need it. 

Modernizing and Advancing Learning 

He also oversees the evolution of the Axalta Academy, a platform that modernizes technical training through digital tools, international standardization, and a pedagogy centred on shop-floor efficiency. For this man of action, “training is not an expense, but a strategic investment for the entire automotive ecosystem.” 

By combining strategic vision, educational expertise, and a keen understanding of industry realities, Patrice M. Marcil now stands as one of the most influential figures driving the transformation of collision repair training worldwide.
