Artificial intelligence, electromobility, software-defined vehicles, sustainability and training: the German trade show offers a glimpse into the transformations ahead for the automotive industry.
Automechanika Frankfurt 2026 opened its doors in Germany on September 8. Considered the world’s largest international event dedicated to the automotive aftermarket, this year’s show brings together more than 4,400 exhibitors from over 80 countries across nearly 300,000 square metres of exhibition space.
Beyond its sheer scale, the event provides an opportunity to take the pulse of a rapidly evolving industry.
Technology and Mobility Take Centre Stage
Among this year’s initiatives is the HighTech4Mobility forum, which focuses in particular on software-defined vehicles and new technologies transforming the automotive industry.
The Future Mobility Park showcases various technologies related to the future of mobility, while the Automechanika Pitlane and Innovation Awards highlight new products, equipment and solutions for the automotive aftermarket.
The Innovation Awards span ten categories, reflecting the broad range of changes currently affecting the industry.
Trends That Also Matter to Canadian Repair Shops
Several major themes stand out at this year’s event: artificial intelligence, electromobility, sustainability, digitalization and professional training.
Although Automechanika takes place in Frankfurt, these transformations are not limited to Europe. They are influencing the technologies integrated into vehicles, the equipment required to service them, the skills expected of technicians and the products offered by major international suppliers.
For Canadian repair shop managers, the show provides an interesting preview of the technologies and practices that could gradually become part of their day-to-day operations.
