For more than 50 years, the Frangione family has been part of Ottawa’s automotive industry. Today, 27-year-old Michael Frangione is carrying that legacy forward through Essential Auto Calibration & Glass, a company specializing in advanced automotive technologies.
The story began in 1975 with BEMAC, an auto body business that became a familiar name in the Ottawa region. Michael grew up surrounded by automotive professionals, gaining firsthand knowledge of the industry and developing a passion for the trade.
While working at collision repair facilities across Ontario, he became particularly interested in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which have become an essential part of modern vehicle repairs.
As cameras, radars, and electronic systems become increasingly sophisticated, repairs require more than traditional bodywork. Even after a vehicle has been properly repaired, certain safety systems must be recalibrated to function correctly.
When Michael returned to Ottawa, he recognized a growing demand for specialized calibration services, but few dedicated facilities were available. Rather than wait for someone else to fill the gap, the family decided to establish its own business.
From One Location to New Opportunities
Founded in 2023, Essential Auto specializes in ADAS calibration, electronic module programming, and other technical services for automotive professionals.
Three years later, the company operates two locations and regularly works with approximately 40 businesses across the Ottawa region, including collision repair centres and dealerships.
Michael oversees daily operations and the continued development of the facilities, ensuring that equipment and technicians keep pace with rapidly evolving vehicle technologies.
Looking ahead, Essential Auto is considering a third location to better serve the Ottawa area, with the possibility of expanding into other Canadian markets.
After five decades in the collision repair industry, the Frangione family continues to build on its legacy by embracing innovation, advanced technology, and the evolving safety requirements of modern vehicles.
One thing is certain: this family story is far from over.
