General Motors has launched its first Automotive Service Technicians 30 Under 30 program, an initiative designed to recognize young technicians making an impact in GM service departments.
The automaker will select 30 technicians age 29 or younger who stand out in areas such as continuous technical training, customer service, leadership, mentorship and their ability to adapt to evolving vehicle technologies.
Highlighting a Profession in Transition
For GM, the initiative also addresses a broader industry challenge: developing the next generation of skilled technicians as vehicles become increasingly complex.
Those selected will serve as ambassadors for the profession and share their experiences to help raise awareness of the career opportunities available to automotive technicians today.
Nominations are open until October 30, 2026, and nominees must be 29 or younger as of December 31, 2026.
The 30 honorees will receive national recognition at an induction ceremony in Detroit, along with professional tools and other resources. The inaugural class is expected to be announced in January 2027.
For shop managers, the initiative also highlights the importance of showcasing career development, training and technological advancement when trying to attract a new generation of technicians.
