Automation is making its way into Canadian tire service bays. PitPro Automation has installed its first production automated tire-changing system at a Kal Tire location in Calgary, Alberta.

The installation marks both PitPro’s transition from pilot projects to real-world operation and the company’s first deployment of the technology in Canada.

Designed to fit within a single service bay, the system is intended for Class 3 and smaller vehicles. Once a vehicle is positioned on the platform, two automated gantries work simultaneously on all four wheel positions. According to PitPro, a complete set of tires can be changed in under 15 minutes.

Beyond speed, the company is placing particular emphasis on reducing the physically demanding and repetitive tasks associated with tire service. This is especially relevant in Canada, where repair shops and tire retailers face significant seasonal demand spikes.

Kal Tire also views automation as a tool to support its employees rather than replace them. The goal is to have the system handle some of the most physically demanding tasks, allowing technicians to spend more time on diagnostic work and customer service.

For shop managers, this first Canadian installation offers a glimpse at what tire service could look like in the coming years: greater automation to increase capacity during peak periods while reducing the physical demands placed on employees.

The Calgary installation represents the first step in PitPro’s commercial rollout, with additional systems scheduled to be installed at customer locations this fall.
