One defining characteristic of South Korean automakers is their strong presence in Canada—and especially in Quebec. They treat our market as if it were just as important as the United States, and as a result, sales are delivering. To prove the point, Kia showcased no fewer than three 100% electric Canadian premieres at the Montreal Auto Show.
The EV4
The EV4 is a compact electric sedan that will be arriving in Kia dealerships shortly. More compact and affordable than its larger sibling, the Hyundai Ioniq 6, it will be Kia’s most affordable electric vehicle, with an estimated starting price of around $42,000.

Offered exclusively with front-wheel drive, it is built on a 400-volt architecture, allowing charging speeds of up to 135 kW. Two battery options are available. The base version features a 58.3 kWh lithium-polymer battery providing up to 391 km of range, while higher-trim versions receive an 81.4 kWh battery offering up to 552 km of range. Output is rated at 201 horsepower and 209 lb-ft of torque.
The EV5
The EV5 will likely be the most important electric vehicle in Kia’s lineup since the EV6. Its format—very close to that of its gasoline-powered cousin, the Sportage—is extremely popular, and strong sales are widely expected. Adding to its appeal, it will be offered at a very attractive price.
In terms of powertrains, buyers will have the choice between a front-wheel-drive version producing 215 hp and 228 lb-ft of torque, and an all-wheel-drive version delivering 310 hp and 354 lb-ft. The base model is available only with front-wheel drive and uses a 60.4 kWh battery. Higher trims are equipped with an 81.4 kWh battery, which can be paired with the optional all-wheel-drive system.

Built on a 400-volt architecture, the EV5 supports charging speeds of up to 141 kW. Estimated range figures are 335 km for the base version, 415 km for the all-wheel-drive version, and 460 km for the front-wheel-drive version with the larger battery.
Finally, a New Product Lineup
Lastly, Kia is also introducing a new lineup of electric commercial vehicles. To launch this new range, known as PV, Kia is bringing the PV5 to market. This small, 100% electric van is quite charming and will serve as an affordable and appealing alternative for many businesses. With up to 5,100 litres of cargo space and a relatively high roof, the PV5 is designed with local deliveries in mind.

Three battery options are available—43.3 kWh, 51.5 kWh, and 71.2 kWh—allowing for a maximum range of up to 400 km. Charging time is estimated at around 30 minutes. With front-wheel drive, output is rated at 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
