Montreal Powers Into the Global Top 10 for EV-Friendly Cities

Montreal has been recognized as one of the world’s most electric vehicle–friendly cities — and the only one outside Europe to make the top 10 — according to a new Compare the Market AU study.

The ranking evaluated 106 cities worldwide on five key factors: charging infrastructure, EV sales and fleet size, national electricity costs, and government incentives.

Montreal ranked seventh overall, ahead of Lisbon and Bergen, thanks to its affordable electricity rates (about US$0.13 per kWh), robust EV adoption with over 124,000 electric vehicles, and a growing charging network offering 55 stations per 100,000 residents.

Dutch cities dominated the top of the list, with The Hague leading due to its exceptional charging density. Montreal’s performance highlights its strong commitment to sustainable mobility and its emerging leadership in North America’s EV transition.
