With over 2,000 service centres across North America — including Canadian licensees — Jiffy Lube enters a new chapter under independent ownership while Shell retains Pennzoil, Quaker State and Rotella.
Shell has completed the sale of Jiffy Lube International (JLI) and its subsidiary, Premium Velocity Auto (PVA), to an affiliate of Monomoy Capital Partners for $1.3 billion USD. The transaction includes Premium Velocity Auto — the second-largest Jiffy Lube franchisee with over 360 locations across 20 U.S. states — and marks the end of a more than 20-year partnership between Shell and the most recognized quick lube brand in North America.
Shell refocuses its lubricants portfolio
For Shell, the divestiture is part of a broader strategy to monetize non-core assets and redirect resources toward higher-return segments. The company retains its flagship brands — Pennzoil, Quaker State, Rotella, and other Shell Lubricants products — along with their marketing, manufacturing, and distribution operations in the United States and Canada. A long-term lubricants supply agreement between Pennzoil Quaker State and Monomoy ensures continuity of Shell products within Jiffy Lube service centres.
What this means for Canadian franchisees and customers
Jiffy Lube operates licensees in Canada, and this transition to independent ownership raises legitimate questions for Canadian franchisees and consumers alike. For now, the brand, network, and product supply remain in place. Canadian automotive service professionals will want to monitor how Monomoy’s strategy evolves — particularly around network development, training standards, and service quality — in the months ahead.
