With its new« Où bidon » campaign, the SOGHU aims to reinforce a simple but essential habit: properly returning automotive maintenance products to one of the collection points in its network so they can be recycled. The objective is clear: increase awareness of collection points while making it easier for citizens across Quebec to adopt environmentally responsible habits.
The creative concept is built around a distinctly Quebec-inspired play on words. By reworking the well-known Quebec expression “ou bedon” (“or else”), the campaign has transformed the phrase into “« Où bidon ».The word ‘’où : where” directly connects to finding a nearby collection point, while “bindon : can” immediately evokes the automotive maintenance world, such as oil containers, aerosols, etc. It is a memorable approach that captures attention and speaks directly to consumers.
And for good reason: a large portion of the products recovered—particularly used oil and antifreeze—are returned in containers. The association is natural, effective and perfectly aligned with real-world practices.
The SOGHU therefore encourages citizens to consult the online collection point locator at oubidon.ca
to find out where they can return their automotive maintenance products free of charge, including oils, filters, antifreeze, plastic containers and aerosols. The process is simple and completely free.
However, a few important guidelines must be followed when returning automotive maintenance products to a collection point:
- Products must be returned during the collection point’s business hours.
- Oil and antifreeze must be in their original containers, properly sealed with their caps, to facilitate identification.
- Eligible products must be returned in 20-litre or smaller containers. The public is encouraged to return products frequently to avoid overloading collection points.
Now you know and are empowered to take action—for the environment and for the future.
