Gen Z Steers Back to the Wheel

Younger Drivers Hit the Gas

New research from Enterprise Mobility challenges the notion that young people are turning away from car ownership. Their annual “On the Move” survey reveals that Generation Z (Gen Z) is using private vehicles more often than ever before.

  • 66% of Gen Z respondents use a private vehicle weekly or more, up 4% year-over-year.
  • Over half report driving more this year than last, representing the largest increase among all generations surveyed.

Tech and EV Adoption: A Hesitant Love

Despite increased driving, younger adults remain primary users of alternative transit (mass transit, ride-hailing).

Regarding automotive technology, drivers have mixed feelings: they demand advanced safety features (blind spot detection) and infotainment (GPS, Bluetooth), yet nearly 7 in 10 would trade advanced tech for a more affordable vehicle. Repair costs are a major concern (72%).

Finally, Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption appears stalled, mainly due to persistent range anxiety and high initial cost. The findings emphasize the need for mobility solutions that balance affordability, technology, and convenience, placing the user at the center of the experience.
