Schaeffler, one of the world’s leading motion technology suppliers, has reached a significant milestone in next-generation braking system development. Through its DTM Innovation Taxi racing demonstration vehicle, the company has tested wet lamella brake technology in real-world conditions for the first time — a system designed to be clean, quiet, and durable.
The promise is clear: zero brake particle emissions, no brake squeal, and a significant reduction in shop visits. These advantages are especially relevant for electric vehicles, where the absence of an internal combustion engine makes mechanical noises — including brake squeaking — far more noticeable to drivers.
A vision that goes beyond the racetrack
What Schaeffler is demonstrating on Germany’s legendary Nürburgring circuit is intended to reach everyday vehicles eventually. The company is also expanding its portfolio in rail transportation — featuring friction-optimized axlebox bearings, electromechanical actuators, and remanufacturing services — ahead of the InnoTrans 2026 trade show in Berlin. Additionally, Schaeffler is closely tracking the expansion of the private space sector, in which its precision technologies are playing an increasingly important role. For Canadian mechanical and collision shops, the shift toward zero-emission, low-maintenance braking systems signals a change to anticipate in technical training and diagnostic equipment in the years ahead
