Giti Tire has developed a breakthrough prototype tire made with 93% sustainable materials. The innovation combines bio-based polymers, advanced recycling processes, and next-generation manufacturing techniques.
Petroleum-based ingredients were replaced with nature-derived alternatives like deforestation-free natural rubber, pine resin, rice husk silica, and plant-based antioxidants—accounting for 53% of the tire.
The prototype also repurposes old materials: recycled rubber, carbon black, steel, and PET plastic bottles make up 40% of the composition. Recycled steel and R-PET cords enhance the tire’s internal structure while reducing reliance on virgin materials.
“This is both a milestone and a promise,” said Gao Qiang Sheng, Giti Tire’s R&D General Manager. “Our team is committed to pioneering sustainable innovations while maintaining the performance and safety drivers expect.”
The sustainable components have achieved a technical readiness score of 9 out of 10.
In related news, Pirelli has released a tire made with over 70% bio-based and recycled content, including FSC-certified natural rubber.
