A respected figure in the environmental field, Jean-François Richard is known for his long-standing commitment to sustainable development. His career path reflects a rare balance between strategic vision and technical expertise. 

A versatile manager 

Since July 1, 2024, Jean-François Richard has been the general manager of the Société de gestion des huiles usagées (SOGHU).  During his studies, which led him to obtain the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, he worked in the automotive industry as a mechanic and then as a technical advisor. His appointment as SOGHU controller in 2017 was therefore quite natural. 

In his current role at SOGHU, he leads one of Canada’s largest oil recovery and mechanical maintenance programs. All this, while ensuring responsible management from an economic, ecological and societal standpoint. 

Jean-François is also very actively involved in the Table de concertation sur l’environnement et les véhicules routiers du Québec (TCEVRQ), acting as its president. 

Initiatives in action 

The TCEVRQ brings together several key industry players to address environmental issues specific to the automotive industry, such as scrap tires and oil recovery (SOGHU). The Clé Verte certification program was also set up by the members of the TCEVRQ. They are currently working on a mandatory inspection and emission control program for vehicles 8 years and older (PIEVA+8) when they are sold. 

A committed and dedicated mentor 

Jean-François Richard is always available for his team of about ten people at SOGHU.  His ability to encourage autonomy among his employees is a testament to his people-centred approach to management. His vision of effective management is rooted in patience and respect, qualities that shine through in both his professional and personal life. 

Apart from his professional commitments, Jean-François is passionate about golf and cycling, cultivating a balance between his career and his hobbies.
