At the end of 2025, Québec had 440,554 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, representing nearly 6% of the province’s total vehicle fleet. More than 70% of these vehicles were fully electric. (SAAQ data analyzed by the AVÉQ)
But are these vehicles actually being serviced by independent repair shops? Shop Guru’s data confirms that they are.
Based on a sample of 131,589 VINs, we identified:
- 5,098 fully electric vehicles, representing 3.9% of the sample
- 11,676 repair orders
- $15.1 million in sales
- An average odometer reading of 66,861 km
The activity extends far beyond specialized repairs involving batteries or propulsion systems. Electric vehicles still require tires, brakes, suspension, steering, air conditioning, preventive maintenance, and many other wear-and-tear components.
Tires alone accounted for 3,849 repair orders and $2 million in sales in our analysis. Labour and parts each generated approximately $5.7 million in revenue.
The conclusion is clear: electric vehicles are no longer just a trend to watch. They already represent a real customer base for independent repair shops.
The shops that invest now in developing their expertise, equipment, and communication strategies will be best positioned to retain these motorists in the years ahead.
Vehicle maintenance is changing. The business opportunity is already here.
