Gilles Goddard is a visionary and has a hands-on approach. He has been able to transform his values into concrete actions. From physical education to municipal politics, then to environmental management, his career illustrates a constant quest for sustainable solutions.
Deep-rooted origins
The son of a farmer, Gilles Goddard learned from a young age to handle a variety of equipment and machinery. His ability to adapt and his appreciation for a job well done have followed him throughout his career. After training as a physical education teacher, he devoted 14 years to teaching.
A political career in the service of the common good
In 1989, Gilles was elected mayor of Ascot Corner in the Eastern Townships. He also made history by becoming the first prefect elected by universal suffrage in Quebec. His political commitment spanned a period of 15 years.
Leader in environmental management
In 2004, Gilles Goddard took over the reins of the Société de Gestion des Huiles Usagées du Québec (SOGHU), becoming its first General Manager. He played a leading role in the implementation of an efficient model for the recovery and reclamation of used oils and their containers, as well as filters – not only in Quebec but also across Canada. His expertise allows him to navigate a complex regulatory framework, and he actively collaborates with RECYC-QUÉBEC. In his initiatives, he favours “win-win” partnerships, and the well-being of his employees remains a priority for him.
A lasting legacy
In 2015, he stepped down from his position, passing the torch to Jean Duchesneau, who previously held the position of Assistant General Manager. Gilles nevertheless continues to share his knowledge as a consultant and trainer. Despite a busy schedule, he still devotes time to volunteering.
His unwavering commitment to worthy causes demonstrates that with determination, creativity and passion, it is possible to turn ideals into tangible realities. This man of action remains an inspiring role model for generations to come.
